Citizenship does not affect taxes in Sao Tome and Principe. Resident individuals are taxed on their worldwide income. Tax Residency is established if the individual spends more than 183 days in São Tomé and Príncipe..

Tax Rates

Sao Tome and Principe levies several taxes

  • Personal (0–25%) and
  • corporate (25%) tax rates,
  • No wealth, inheritance or capital gains tax

Sales Tax: São Tomé and Príncipe applies a value-added tax (VAT) to goods and services at a standard rate of 15%.

Tax Treaty

São Tomé and Príncipe has bilateral investment treaties (BIT) with:

  • Angola,
  • Cabo Verde,
  • Mauritius
  • Portugal.

United States

São Tomé and Príncipe does not have a bilateral taxation treaty with the United States. So far No FATCA agreement exists with United States (Non-FATCA country)

United Kingdom

The United Kingdom and São Tomé and Príncipe do not have a bilateral tax treaty (specifically, a Double Taxation Agreement or DTA) in force
